• The government approved the first NTPC project on the 8th of December 1976. It was a thermal energy project in Singrauli (Uttar Pradesh).
• In 1997, the company received the status of Navratna.
• The company was registered for business in 2004. In 2005, it was changed to NTPC Limited.
• The company entered into an agreement in 2006 to establish two 250-MW units at Trincomalee, Sri Lanka. (ntpc full form)
